Cross Crawl

 

This is an energy exercise that: activates both brain hemispheres simultaneously; and engages brain for co-ordinating Visual, Auditory & Kinesthetic abilities; improves skills such as listening, writing and memory, aids vitality and also healing.  

 

 

Cross Crawl can therefore be used:

(1)   as an ‘ice breaker’ in new groups meeting for the first time – lots of fun;

(2)   to encourage listeners/attendees to become more ‘open and balanced’ to new information; and

(3)   in cases of ‘stuckness’ when reversals are preventing someone form ‘moving on’ – in effect it is a ‘fail safe’.

 

This is done by simply ‘crossing over’ the central line of the body by touching hands and knees – if you are able.

 

Very useful in workshops and trainings because it  ‘helps to integrate the work of others into one’s own life and thought’ and also’ encourages ‘active listening’ involving both internal and external feedback and feedforward’.

 

 

Cross Crawl:

 

ü      If you are able, stand up and walk in a circle  (everyone walking in the same direction)

ü      as you walk make exaggerated movements such that your right hand touches your left knee with the first step

ü      then with your second step, touch your left hand to your right knee

ü      alternate your hand-knee touching in this way for approximately 60 seconds

 

OR

 

Ø                  If you are unable to walk yet can balance standing upright, then

Ø                  instead of walking just stand with your hands by your side

Ø                  making certain that you reach over from one side of the body to the other – preferably with your hands to your knee or hip – for approximately 60 seconds

 

OR

 

v                 If you cannot stand easily yet can ‘sit’ and do the same exercise, then

v                 touch right hand to left knee and

v                 left hand to right knee for approximately 60 seconds

 

 

 

Note of Caution:     If an individual has any predisposing heart condition or breathing difficulties or stability problems please excuse them from joining in with the Cross Crawl exercise
