EFT & Coaching
EFT – Emotional Freedom
Techniques – is the ideal tool for the professional coach to include in their
toolbox. Although I am sure many don’t realise it yet.
In 2002 I went to a coaching
convention held in San Francisco and wanted to tell people know about this
great and very flexible tool – that was literally “under their noses”. When I arrived at the convention I realised
that EFT had simply not been heard of by many of them, so I asked if I could “just
have a few minutes to announce or tell people about it. Even a table and a couple of chairs in the
Exhibition Hall would suffice.” My
request was rejected. “… it was too
late to include it as everything had already been planned, organised and was in
place… however if you want to show it next year … although, if you use this
technique in therapy you CAN’T use it in coaching”. I had already told them that I had, by this time, been using EFT
successfully in both my psychotherapy AND my coaching practices.
There was a slight
undercurrent of disquiet emanating my way from the two main organisers – both
of them left this organisation within 12months to start their own individual
coaching practices. I thought “Hmmm, how’s about THAT for conventional
thinking, for not thinking outside of the box or being innovative”.
I was very disappointed to
say the least. However I did manage to
tell a few people about it – sitting around tables during lunch-time and at
break-time.
I did not go to their
following year’s convention – however they were by that time beginning to
introduce coaching self development and using metaphysical techniques – very
interesting I thought.
Well, it’s been an
interesting journey because since THAT convention, the coaching fraternity has
been encouraging coaches to use EFT and other energy psychology
techniques. And why? Because they have finally realised that EFT
CAN and DOES work AND it’s not only for dealing with ‘past emotional issues’ or
‘healing’. EFT and the other energy
psychology techniques work wonderfully-well on our beliefs - the negative ones
which we well know can prevent us from moving forwards.
So EFT has now joined NLP as
an ‘ok’ technique to use with clients, to help them get over their fear and
boundary and barrier issues.
So if you are a coach - be
it life, career, parenting, relationship, couples, executive or sports – get to
know EFT. And do learn it from a good
source – not just from ‘freebie’ downloads off the internet – you just don’t get
the full idea of how flexible it can be that way, I should know because that’s
how I first learnt EFT. And didn’t
learn it correctly until I went on my EFT practitioner training.
So let EFT be your and your
client’s flexible friend!
Should you wish to use any of the techniques or
procedures described on these pages, you accept full
responsibility for your own emotional, psychological,
mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing and health.
