Energising Yawn

This exercise is from a series of exercises called ’ Brain Gym’  by  Paul E Dennison  and Gail E Dennison

Helps on various levels:

·        Reading aloud

The jaw muscles can be the most tense muscles in the body with 50% of the nerves connecting from the brain to the body through the area of the jaw joint.  It is therefore of the utmost importance to keep this ‘jaw area’ as free as possible from muscular tension.

ü      As you begin the yawn, lightly press the fingertips of each hand against any tight spots you feel where your cheeks cover the upper and lower molars

ü      You can very gently massage these areas if you want

ü      Make a deep, relaxed, yawning sound (as though it’s coming from the bottom of your stomach)

ü      Whilst gently stroking away any tensions over the upper and lower molar area of your jaw

ü      Repeat 3+ times.

(Use for: massaging muscles over the jaw area as this relaxes the jaw, freeing connections for increased whole brain integration).
