Whatever technique or
therapy you chose to use you can’t go very far wrong when asking questions
which are based on Rudyard Kipling’s quote.
I
keep six honest serving men
(they
taught me all I knew)
Their
names are WHAT and WHY and WHEN
and HOW and WHERE and WHO
So when
meeting with a new client, or even when starting a new piece of investigation
with them, you could start by asking :
ü
Tell me WHAT happened
ü
Tell me WHEN that happened
ü
Tell me HOW that happened
ü
Tell me WHO was there
And more
often than not, you don’t need to ask WHY, however if you feel you need to ask
that, how about asking:
This type
of questioning is similar to that which you use when working with EFT
(Emotional Freedom Techniques):
·
Tell me WHO that reminds you of
·
Tell me the first time you remember WHEN
that happened
·
Tell me WHAT else that reminds you of
etc etc
These types
of questions are referred to as being ‘Open questions’ as opposed to ‘Closed
questions’ such as:
o
Are you feeling alright?
o
Did you get a good night’s sleep?
where their
response could be a simple “Yes” or “No”.
And if you
aren’t using these types of questioning techniques currently, it’s very easy to
begin to ask them, and the responses give you a lot more information. So why not try them?
Should you wish to use any of the
techniques or procedures described on these pages, you accept full
responsibility for your own emotional,
psychological, mental, physical and spiritual wellbeing and health.
